- Pregnancy and childbirth are not illnesses. Therefore, you cannot use health insurance for normal childbirth, and you have to pay a fairly high cost to the hospital etc. by yourself.
However, if you have public insurance, you will be paid a "lump-sum childbirth and childcare allowance" after giving birth, which will greatly reduce your out-of-pocket expenses.
For those who have difficulty preparing childbirth expenses in advance, the "Direct Payment System" is available, in which the National Health Insurance and the Health Insurance Society pay the lump-sum birth allowance directly to the hospital. (If you use this system, the maternity woman cannot receive the money directly.)
If you give birth in Japan, even if you have a small amount of cash on hand, pregnant women will be able to give birth with peace of mind. Please contact your place of employment or each prefectural branch of the National Health Insurance Association. - If you live in Funabashi City and enrolled in the National Health Insurance, you can apply for a lump-sum childbirth and childcare allowance when you gave birth.
The application deadline is two years from the day after the date of birth.
