The deadline for selecting nationality has been changed from April 1, 2022 as follows.
・If you acquire dual nationality before reaching the age of 18 → until reaching the age of 20
・If you acquire dual nationality after reaching the age of 18 → Within 2 years from the time you acquired dual nationality

- If the father and mother are of foreign nationality, the child cannot acquire Japanese nationality even if the child is born in Japan.
It is necessary to acquire nationality according to the laws of each country of the parents, so be sure to check with the embassy or consulate in Japan for procedures.
Also, even if the parents are foreigners, it is necessary to submit a birth registration. Within 14 days including the day of birth, please report to the city hall, each city branch office (contact office is not possible), or the Funabashi Station General Counter Center.
Children who do not have Japanese nationality must also apply for a status of residence.
